THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Vaikundaswami Dharma Pracharana Sabha (VSDP), a notable outfit of the Nadar community, has asked former CPM MLA R Selvaraj to refrain from contesting as a UDF candidate in the coming Neyyattinkara bypoll as the UDF Government had ‘betrayed’ the community. It also warned him that it was suicidal to jump into the fray as a UDF candidate, when VSDP had taken a policy decision to defeat the UDF.In an open letter to Selvaraj, VSDP accused him of resigning from the Assembly as part of a plot by the Latin diocese of  Neyyattinkara."You have shattered the trust of the people when you resigned as an MLA for the benefit of the Church of your belief by getting involved in a conspiracy hatched by the Latin diocese of Neyyattinkara."You have not consulted the chairman of VSDP, as thousands of workers worked day and night  for your victory in the last elections,’’ said VSDP chairman Vishnupuram Chandrasekharan in the letter."Selvaraj jumped into a sea of factional feud, from a brook,’’ Chandrasekharan told Express. He recalled the example of Jaya Dally who had contested unsuccessfully as  LDF candidate at Kattakada when Congress denied her a seat.According to the letter, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy had assured the VSDP chairman and some Bishops from the community that N Sakthan Nadar (Deputy Speaker) will be inducted into the cabinet before the government completed 100 days, as Sakthan and another MLA A T George came out in protest against the non-fulfillment of the agreements reached with the VSDP. It also says before the elections, Oommen Chandy had promised a ministership to the Nadar community to a delegation of 11 leaders of the community."Your resignation from the Assembly came in when the humiliation of the Nadar community in the hands of UDF was at its peak,’’ the letter reminded Selvaraj. The VSDP leader said that the letter was handed over to Selvaraj by five top functionaries of the organisation."Though he had not replied, it is learnt that he has taken the letter in its spirit,’’ Chandrasekharan said.
