SARKANDA ( BARGARH ): Villagers of Sarkanda have joined hands to save the life of son of a fellow villager. They have donated a day’s wage under the MGNREGS for treatment of three-year-old Subham Khamari who is suffering from liver cancer. Villagers led by youth club Arpan and Sarpanch Rabi Pradhan decided to take the responsibility of the boy’s treatment. They came together to work for renovation and revival of village tank which was heavily silted, resulting in water woes. Their daily wage that was collected on Saturday will be deposited in Subham’s bank account for his treatment. It was in November last when Subham was affected with  cold and cough. His father Nihar Ranjan Khamari took him to a doctor who prescribed some medicines. Though Subham’s health improved, he complained of pain in stomach after a few days. He was referred to VSS Medical at Burla and then to Acharya Harihar Cancer Research Centre at Cuttack where he was diagnosed with liver cancer. And since then Nihar and his wife Draupadi have been trying to save their only son. The villagers on their part have also kept a plate and anybody wishing to donate can drop cash. On Saturday, ` 2,500 was collected and Surendra Meher of Arpan said this would continue. Meanwhile, the villagers have moved the District Collector for financial assistance from the Red Cross and the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
