US may prune list of Indian dignitaries being frisked
PM, Cabinet ministers, VP and past and present presidents to be exempt.

New Delhi: The US aviation security department is reviewing the list of Indian dignitaries whom it will subject to frisking before they enter American airplanes.

According to reports, the Transportation Security Administration will now exempt only four-five categories of VVIPs from frisking, as opposed to the existing 40 categories

Now only the Prime Minister, current Union Cabinet ministers, the Vice President and past and present presidents will be exempt from frisking.

The review comes almost a year after former president APJ Abdul Kalam was subjected to a full body check by American carrier Continental Airlines.

Its ground staff violated security protocol by asking Kalam remove his footwear. The incident had outraged the entire country and the matter had even been raised in Parliament.

Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) list currently exempts 30-40 categories of VVIPs from frisking.
