Two more sluice gates of Hirakud Dam Reservoir (HDR) were opened on Monday to release flood water. As of now the water-level in HDR stands at 609 feet and the inflow into the dam is mere 49,000 cusec while the outflow, 77,100 cusec.
Sources said 3,755 cusec is being released into Bargarh main canal, 400 cusec discharged through Sason canal, 61 cusec to Sambalpur distributary and 7 cusec into Hirakud canal. The gates have been opened following 22.03 mm of rainfall in the upstream catchment areas while the downstream received 27.09 mm. Last week, a gate was opened to release water.
