This Coimbatore Eatery Is Popular For Selling 220 Varieties Of Rice Dishes

Who doesn’t love delicious dishes and that too every day? Sometimes, to find the best cuisine, one must explore places they’ve never visited before. Local18 Tamil recently discovered a shop in Coimbatore district, Tamil Nadu. In this shop, a man named Ravi sells 220 varieties of rice. Rice is considered a traditional cuisine in the Coimbatore district and the natives are eager to purchase it from Ravi’s shop. Alongside rice, he also sells jaggery to the customers. Jaggery is a nutritious food that has medicinal properties and helps in maintaining the body’s strength and health. Ravi said that his forefathers had also earned their living by selling rice and he is taking their legacy forward.

Ravi, said, “We have put 220 varieties of rice such as mappilai samba, kattuyanam, bamboo rice, hand-punched rice, etc.” According to him, Guar gum and buttermilk are the common ingredients used in making these rice varieties. As per the rice shop owner, the traditional varieties of rice cooked in his shop are the best remedial measures for problems like sugar, joint pain and cancer. Ravi said that he initially started a fast boot (a feature in the Basic Input Output System that reduces your computer boot time) shop and he was earning quite well. Now, he has started managing the family business of selling rice in which he adds colours and Ajinomoto (Ajinomoto or MSG is a compound made from sodium and glutamic acid, which is one of the most common naturally occurring amino acids) as well. Ravi said that he has been running this rice store for the last 9 years now.

Ravi then talked about the rates of the rice varieties available in his shop. He said that the Kammangul rice is Rs 30, Matta Kanji rice is Rs 40 and Karuppu Kavuni is Rs 50. Ravi stated the reason behind the hefty price of the Karuppu Kavuni rice. He said that this variety is a little difficult to find and that’s why its price is higher. According to Ravi, he has close to 1,500 customers and 300 to 350 customers visit his shop regularly. In this season, he said that about 1,000 to 1,500 customers have visited his shop.
