HYDERABAD: Though the Congress party high command has directed the party cadre to go hammer and tongs at Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, some Telangana MPs are confining themselves to raking up Telangana emotions and sparing Jagan Mohan Reddy. Only a handful of MPs such as V Hanumantha Rao and Madhu Yashki Goud, who targeted YSR during his rule and after his death, are attacking Jagan. After Chidambaram’s December 9, 2009 statement, all Telangana MPs had only one agenda: Telangana. They did not give much importance to Jagan’s issue. Now the party high command directed all the party MPs that they should be more strident in their attack on Jagan. At a recent Congress Parliamentary Party meeting, AICC president Sonia Gandhi warned the MPs against laxity in attacking opposition parties. She asked them to popularise UPA government’s achievements. The Congress has 12 Lok Sabha and six Rajya Sabha members from the Telangana. Only one of them, S.Jaipal Reddy, is a Union minister. Six took active part in the movement and were suspended from the Lok Sabha for stalling the House on the statehood issue. Now these seven MPs are maintaining silence over Jagan. A blistering attack on Jagan can be a battle-winner for the Congress in the Parkal byelection but there is no trace of it. Warangal MP Rajaiah, Peddapally MP G Vivekananda are content with issuing press statements.“Telangana Congress MPs, who pounced on KVP for opposing Telangana during debate in RS are soft on Jagan. They are not targeting TRS chief KCR either,” a senior leader said.
