After Saddam's hanging, the Centre does not want to take any chances in risking the security of the foreigners.

New Delhi: In the wake hanging of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, the Centre does not want to take any chances in risking the security of the foreigners across the country.

In a special note issued by it, the Centre asked all the states to keep a strict vigil on foreigners. The Centre also asked the states to further strengthen security around foreign embassies, consulates and high commissions.

Making a special reference to the Delhi Police, states of West Bengal, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu, where the US Embassy and its Consulate Generals were located, the Government asked them to further beef up the security.

The Goa Government had also been asked to further intensify vigil around the hotels and beaches, where large number of foreign tourists have gathered to spend their year end.

"This is no special threat but we have only issued a general advisory," National Security Advisor M K Narayanan was quoted by PTI as saying. He added that the general advisory could be seen as part of preparedness to meet any untoward challenge.
