Srisailam, Basara to be spruced up

The Endowments Department has come up with an ambitious master plan to develop the Sri Bhramarambha Sametha Mallikarjuna Swamy temple in Srisailam so that it can easily cater to 1.75 lakh pilgrims per day. At present pilgrim arrivals in the temple town are in the range of 20,000 to 50,000 with the peak days being festivals.

The project, whose estimated cost is Rs 642.81 crore, is meant to ease the pressure on amenities due to mounting pilgrim arrivals while also contributing to the overall development of Srisailam over the next 30 years.

Endowments minister C Ramachandraiah said the state government has engaged a consultant, Aarvee Associates, to prepare the detailed project report (DPR) for the plan. It will have water supply, sewerage, drainage and solid waste management components. The minister said in the first phase of the plan, to be taken up at a cost of Rs 84.56 crore, focus will be on water supply, drainage and demarcation of the high-security zone.
