A SpiceJet aircraft (Q 400) with 70 passengers on board suffered a bird hit while landing at the Gannavaram airport on Saturday.
Union minister of state for Human Resource Development Daggubati Purande-swari and her husband Venkateswara Rao, endowments minister C Ramachandraiah and Supreme Court judge Jasti Chelameswar were among the passengers who arrived from Hyderabad by the aircraft.
However, none of the passengers was hurt in the incident which occurred around 8 am.
Due to the bird hit, its return flight to Hyderabad scheduled at 8:20 am, was cancelled. About 35 passengers who reserved their flight tickets to Hyderabad, opted for other means of transport. Eight passengers flew to Hyderabad in another SpiceJet aircraft which came from Rajahmundry around 1:45 pm. Technicians from Hyderabad are repairing the bird-hit aircraft, said an airport official.
