A special plane carrying 167 pilgrims stranded in Uttarakhand arrived at the Raja Bhoj International Airport here Monday evening.
They were welcomed by Parliamentary Affairs Minister Narottam Mishra and Chief Minister's wife Sadhna.
State chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had yesterday directed officials to hire a jet plane to ferry stranded pilgrims from Uttrakhand to Bhopal and Indore.
The State's Public Relations Minister Laxmikant Sharma told PTI over phone from Dehradoon that the first flight carried 167 stranded pilgrims from Dehradoon to Bhopal while the same plane would return and carry 170 persons to Indore.
"So far we have evacuated nearly 4,000 stranded pilgrims of Madhya Pradesh," the Minister said.
Meanwhile, while reviewing the relief and rescue operation at a meeting earlier in the day, Chouhan directed officials to deploy another 70-seater plane to bring back the stranded pilgrims.
The state has also deployed 15 buses and four helicopters to evacuate pilgrims from the hill state and also sent a team of doctors to Uttarakhand to attend to ailing pilgrims.
The government has set up camps at Haridwar, Dehradoon and Rishikesh to provide medical relief to the stranded pilgrims.
