New Delhi: Not long after Samajwadi Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav took the holy dip in the Ganges in Allahabad during the Ardh Kumba mela, Congress President Sonia Gandhi could soon be doing the same, ahead of assembly polls in Uttar Pradesh.
Sources said that there were chances of Sonia taking the holy dip though the date had not been finalised.
Her visit to Allahabad comes ahead of the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh where Congress is looking to revive its status.
AICC General Secretary Ashok Gehlot, in-charge of party affairs in UP, though, said Yadav's holy dip would not help in changing the fate of the ruling Samajwadi Party in UP. The party was already "on its way out" after being deserted by allies, he said.
"How can a visit to Allahabad help the Chief Minister who has not paid attention to governance"? Gehlot told PTI.
