THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The budget for the year 2012-13 targets Kerala to account for five per cent of the Indian IT market and create six lakh new employment opportunities in this sector. For achieving the goal, 600 lakh square feet building will be set up on 1,000 acres of land. It is expected to receive Rs 20,000 crore as investment.Steps will be taken to attract more IT investment to small towns in the State. A convention complex and expo centre with international standards will come up at Aakkulam by including this in the IT corridor project with the support of Tourism Department. Construction works of the Kozhikode Cyberpark having 2.50 lakh square feet area will be completed in the next financial year. A sum of Rs 32 crore has been earmarked for this project. The funds allotted for the other IT parks in the state is as follows: Thiruvananthapuram Technopark - Rs 43 crore, Kochi Infopark - Rs 42 crore, Kozhikode IT Park, Koratty IT Park and Ambalappuzha IT Park - Rs 17 crore. IITMK will be upgraded to international standards. A sum of Rs 10 crore will be utilised for IITMK campus on the 10 acres of land in Technocity campus.A technopark will come up at Karur panchayat in Kottayam district and Rs 10 crore had been allotted for this.
