Dubai: India's Shiv Kapur had mixed feeling after playing a modest one-under 71 in the final round to finish tied 48th at the Omega Dubai Desert Classic on Sunday, even as Stephen Gallacher became the first in 25 years history of the tournament to retain the title.
Kapur, who made the cut in each of the three events on the Desert Swing, said,"It was a decent in the sense that my game is going in the right direction, but it is just a question of things falling in place. Each of the days, I felt I left something out there, but that is something I can work on."
Kapur, who shot 72-70-70 and started the day at four-under, had another sedate start. His first birdie came on the third and then followed a bogey on sixth. He found his rhythm on the back nine with back to back birdies on 10th and 11th, but a lapse on 12th set him back again. A birdie on 13th saw him make up for that. Then came a bogey on the 15th.
"I am going back home tonight and possibly I will get to play a few holes with Tiger. That should be some experience. Then I am off to South Africa for two weeks and I hope I can improve further on the results," said Kapur.
Kapur has played five events on the 2013-14 season and made the cut in each of them. He added,"My goal is to get into the Race to Dubai finals at the end of the season. That said, after two wins on Challenge Tour last year, my goal is to put a win against my name on the main Tour."
Emiliano Grillo (66) was second at 15-under, while Romen Wattel (66) and Brooks Koepka (70) were tied third at 14-under. Rory McIlroy, leader in the first half of the tournament, slipped to 74 and ended in tied ninth. World Number One Tiger Woods carded a final round of 71 to finish in a tie for 41st on six under.
