It was an honour to represent the country and be the only one from the State to have been selected for this international event. I am aware of my responsibilities and of the expectations of people of Odisha and my well-wishers. My team mates and I had worked very hard to bring this glory for the country,” Rashmita said, adding that she was elated at the overwhelming response from the people of the State. Rashmita, who hails from a farmer’s family in Badaniranjanpur village, started playing Kabaddi during her school days. She was trained by Purnachandra Sethi of Kuakhia Sporting Club, which played a major role in introducing her to the district-level and state-level Kabaddi tournaments. The sportswoman’s family is ecstatic about her achievement. “Being a girl from a village, she did not have access to adequate facilities. However, she managed to overcome all these hurdles to rise to this height. This is because of God’s blessings and her determination,” said Rashmita’s father Duryodhan Sahoo.
