New Delhi: The Railways will soon introduce a Palace-on-Wheels between Delhi and Amritsar, complete with spa, bar, beauty parlour, business centre and suites with attached baths.

The luxary train with 20 coaches would start from Safdarjung station in New Delhi and might halt at Patiala and Chandigarh for sightseeing enroute to Amritsar, Managing Director of Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), PK Goel, said on Wednesday.

He said IRCTC would soon be signing an MoU with the Punjab government to start running the Palace-on-Wheels in about a year.

"Facilities like spa, bar, beauty parlour, business centre and suites with attached baths would be essential features of this train," Goel said, adding that historical places in Amritsar and Wagah border would be included in its list of sites.

IRCTC was also contemplating extension of the Palace-on-Wheels route from Delhi to Jaipur and Agra in the long run, he said.

It had alloted Chandigarh Budget Hotel project to Zoom Developers and would start similar projects in Shimla, Ambala, Amritsar, Ludhiana, Katra and Srinagar. "Across India, we plan to have 29 budget hotels," he said.
