CHENNAI: Fresh out of college, 21-year-old Swetha Patni just couldn’t stop going to her new office, EchoVme, a digital marketing firm, at Egmore. Among other things, there’s a 10 by 14 inch photo of her on a glass wall outside her cubicle that makes her feel right at home. Inside the cubicle, the corresponding glass wall is reserved for her where she scribbles on a black chart paper and releases her creativity and imagination. She even gets `100 a month as allowance to decorate her work space! Should Swetha get tired while on duty, she has the privilege of taking a 15-20 minute ‘power nap’ to recharge her batteries. A special room is reserved for a few quick winks. She says, “I love the work environment here. I’m just couple of months old in this office, and I couldn’t have asked for more. In fact, my friends don’t believe me when I tell them about our work culture.” Redefining the rules of corporate work culture, EchoVme, a 10-member workforce, takes the lead in building an employee brand that eventually gives credibility to the organisation, says its owner and ‘Thinker in Chief’, Sorav Jain. “I started my career working with start-up. I know how they function, and didn’t want a repeat of the same restrictive work environment here. It’s all about creating a positive vibe that will reflect on the productivity levels,” says the 23-year-old entrepreneur, who won a `1 crore funding for his business recently. When it comes to their responsibilities, the staff at EchoVme have strict deadlines and that should be met at all costs, says project manager, Karthika Priyadarshini, who has been with EchoVme since its inception. “Sorav has been inclined toward these innovations ever since we started working together,” she says. “That was even before this company started, and it’s a lot of fun.” Karthika grins at her own her photo outside her cubicle work space.Ironically, the party really gets started during the regular power cuts that have plagued the city recently. Think along the lines of rainbow palm prints on chart paper (wall art courtesy EchoVme), brain storming sessions in the dark on various aspects of social media marketing and the like. “It’s always better to do something productive rather than sit idle,” reasons Sorav. And if you are a fresher at EchoVme, you get to explore the business and choose a particular area you are keen to specialise in. Sorav says, “We designate a fresher as a social media enthusiast and even encourage him or her to give a presentation in the first month. Then, depending on his interest, he can choose which vertical he would like to work in.” (To contact ‘Thinker-in-chief’ Sorav, call 9791134451)
