Rajasthan govt to launch project for protection of Great Indian Bustard
Rajasthan government will soon launch a project for the protection of Great Indian Bustard (Godawan), the state bird, with a cost of Rs 12.90 crore, a state minister said.

Rajasthan government will soon launch a project for the protection of Great Indian Bustard (Godawan), the state bird, with a cost of Rs 12.90 crore, a state minister said.

Rs 445 lakh will be provided this year for the project under which various initiatives aimed at the bird's conservation which included strengthening of infrastructure, construction of water sources in godawan habitat will be taken, Forest and Environment minister Bina Kak said on Wednesday.

Rajasthan is the first state in the country to launch such project, she said in a release here. A task force will also be formed for effective monitoring of the project. Kak informed that the state has prepared a recovery plan for critically endangered species under integrated development of wildlife habitat and efforts were on for getting it approved from the Centre.

Majority of the Godawan in the country are found in Rajasthan.
