PUDUCHERRY: Puducherry Education Minister P M L Kalyanasundaram was today summoned by Tamil Nadu police to appear before it on Tuesday for questioning after a case was registered against him for allegedly using a proxy to write his class X public examination in the neighbouring state.A police team led by Villupuram DSP P Jayaraj handed over the summons to Puducherry Assembly Speaker V Sabapathy in his chamber here as Kalyanasundaram was said to be out of station.Sabapathy told reporters that the police officers initially informed him that Kalyanasundaram should be present at the Crime Branch office in Villupuram tomorrow. But following his request, they agreed that Kalyanasundaram could appear on Tuesday, he said. The summons were issued a day after Tamil Nadu education officials filed a complaint with crime branch police against Kalyanasundram and two others after a high-level committee constituted to look into the charge that he used a proxy to write the examination in Tindivanam in Villupuram District on September 29 'found a prima facie case' against him.Acting on the complaint, police have registered cases against Kalyanasundaram. Besides, a school teacher in Tindivanam and an education department official in the district have also been booked for their alleged complicity.Kalyanasundaram has, however, rejected the charge as 'politically motivated' and said he was ready to face any probe. Chief Minister N Rangasamy had yesterday met the Minister at his office and discussed the issue. He had first appeared for SSLC exam in 1991 and passed in three of the five subjects. He had applied for writing Science and Social Sciences in the supplementary exam held on Sept 29 and 30 stating his centre of preference as Tindivanam, close to Puducherry. The Union Territory does not have a separate education board and follows the syllabus of Tamil Nadu state board.Opposition AIADMK and CPI in the union territory today demanded the resignation of Kalayanasundaram.
