PUDUCHERRY: Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs and Prime Minister’s Office, V Narayanasamy, on Friday slammed Chief Minister N Rangasamy for not attending the meeting of National Development Council (NDC) held in New Delhi recently.Talking to reporters, he said that the meet, held under the chairmanship of the Prime Minister, saw the attendance of even opposition party chief ministers like Gujarat CM Narendra Modi and Bihar CM Nitish Kumar. At the meet, participants presented the demands of their states and sought funds for their for development.He said barring two top officials, there was no one to represent Puducherry, which was facing a financial crunch. “It’s regrettable that the CM kept away from such a crucial meeting. He could have utilised this chance to present the requirements,” he said. He added that the officials were not allowed to speak in the meeting.Narayanasamy said that he had urged the Prime Minister to consider the proposals submitted by Chief Minister for a special fund of Rs 3,085 crore for the development of tourism, education and medicine. The Union Minister said that the Congress would organise agitations if the government failed to provide 25 kg of quality rice.Chennai-Karaikal Rail Line From Nov 11The Chennai-Karaikal train will start running from November 11, Union Minister V Narayanasamy said in Puducherry on Friday.He said that Karaikal would become an important destination for tourists after the inauguration of the service. The Union Minister informed that there were plans for a rail link between Karaikal and Salem in the near future. The link would enable the factories in Salem, Tiruchy and Nagapattinam to utilise the Karaikal port, he added.A request had been submitted to Haj Committee, headed by Mohsina Kidwai, to increase the quota for Puducherry to 150 people from the present 78.
