London: Prince Harry, the third-in-line to the British throne, has courted controversy for attending a rave party after taking a break from his combat chopper pilot training.
The rave party, held in a ramshackle third-floor room at an area notorious for high crime rates in East London, was organised by a group of former students from Leeds University where his ex-girlfriend Chelsy Davy is studying.
But, serious concerns have been raised about Harry's appearance at the all-night party in Whitechapel, where techno music was played loudly to a group of some 400 revellers, the Daily Mail reported.
The former head of Royal Protection at Scotland Yard said that Harry was putting his safety and those around him at risk by attending the event.
“We are at the severe end of severe danger, according to the home secretary. What is the point of taxpayer spending £50 million on protection for the Royals, when officers are unable to prepare for events like this in a venue that is incredibly difficult.
“My concern is that if you are being protected, the onus is on you to look after yourself to some extent. That responsibility seems not to be taken seriously and it puts him and his officers in a dangerous position,” Dai Davies, who was in charge of Royal security until 1998, was quoted as saying.
