New Delhi: A 28-year-old Calicut resident, who was four months pregnant, was forced to go for an abortion after two CPM activists allegedly kicked her in the stomach which damaged her placenta.

The victim, Jyotsana Siby, said that her baby was “born dead” after the accused, Thampi and Prajesh, allegedly assaulted her.

“I started bleeding and was in immense pain. My husband rushed me to a hospital where the doctors informed us that there was blood clot in my placenta, following which they had to conduct an operation on February 2. The doctors gave us our dead baby, whom we cremated in Mavoor. Even then their threats did not stop,” the victim was quoted as saying by Times Now.

Siby was alleged kicked by the men following a dispute over boundary walls.

“We had a problem with our neighbours regarding the boundary wall. They used to threaten us, even late at night, and also used foul language. I had filed a complaint at the police station regarding the matter,” she said.

“On the day of the incident, a person named Syedhalavi came and said that he had some problem with my husband, Siby Chacko Thenumkuzhy. I immediately alerted the police that there were eight people here who might create a ruckus. By the time anyone could come to our rescue, the men had assaulted everyone, including my children,” the 30-year-old said, adding that the police officers refused to help her citing lack of vehicles at the station.

While the incident occurred 18 days ago, it came to light after Jyotsna and her husband sat on a dharna in front of the Kodancherry police station on Wednesday, demanding an action against the criminals.

Seven CPM activists, including a secretary of its branch committee in Kozhikode district, have been arrested in the case. Six persons, including Thettalil Thampi secretary of Kallatharamedu branch committee, surrendered at the Kodancherry police station on Thursday morning. Another one connected to the case was arrested on Wednesday.

According to the woman, the CPM activists had also threatened to chop off the legs of her husband, if she did not withdraw the complaint.
