Policy on early release of life-convicts soon

KOCHI: The state government on Tuesday submitted before the High Court that it would soon form a policy on premature release of life term convicts.The Advocate General also sought five weeks time to frame the policy  and submit it to the court.The Full Bench comprising Chief Justice P N Ravindran and Justice V K Mohanan has granted the time.The Advocate General made the submission during the hearing a case suo motu initiated by the court on the basis of a submission made by the government during the hearing of an another case related to premature release of convicts.During the hearing of a petition filed by Beatrice Melvin Padua, wife Melvin Padua, a convict who was denied premature release, the state had submitted that 209 convicts had been given premature release.The court registered a case on the basis of this submission.
