The underworld don, who had been accusing the Mumbai police of harassment and torture, has done a volte-face.

Mumbai: The Mumbai underworld gangster's story gets more and more bizarre as investigations continue.

The don, who till last week had been accusing the Mumbai police of harassment and torture, has done a volte-face.

Salem's lawyer, Owais Siddiqui, had alleged on Saturday that the police were manhandling Salem at the Bhoiwada police station.

He also claimed that the police had threatened Salem they would kill him in custody.

However when P V Bhavkar, the sessions judge for TADA court in Greater Mumbai, questioned the underworld don on Tuesday, he had a completely different story to tell.

He told the judge that he had been well taken care of during the five days that he had spent in police custody.

Salem also said that he got all the meals on time and that he had not been manhandled or tortured in any way.

However when during the questioning the judge asked Salem why he was looking scared, the don's lawyer stated that it was the presence of the many policemen that was terrifying Salem.

The judge said that he could not disband the policemen due to security reasons but he asked Salem to proceed to his chambers for a private interrogation session.

Following the interrogation session, Bhavkar has extended Salem's remand in police custody till December 2.
