Hyderabad: The first phase of Hyderabad Metro Rail is all set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 28. However, for the general public, the Metro will open from 6 am on November 29.
In the first phase, a 30-km stretch from Nagole to Ameerpet (17 km) and Ameerpet to Miyapur (13 km), will be opened to public, connecting two ends of the city.
PM Modi will reach Hyderabad at 1:15 pm and proceed to Miyapur Metro station by helicopter. After inaugurating the Hyderabad Metro Rail at Miyapur station at 2:25pm, the Prime Minister, along with Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao and other officials, will embark on 5-km metro ride from Miyapur to Kukatpally.
Addressing the media, Municipal Administration minister KT Rama Rao said, “We are extremely happy that it will the longest stretch, 30 km, of Metro Rail which will be inaugurated on day one. The Hyderabad Metro Rail Project is the most innovative and the biggest project in the Public Private Partnership model in the world."
The Metro Rail was built at a cost of about Rs 15,000 crore.
The entire project covers a distance of 72 kilometers and is expected to redefine the city’s transportation once it becomes fully operational.
With a frequency of 3 to 5 minutes during peak hours, the system is expected to carry about 17 lakh passengers per day by 2017 and 22 lakh by 2024. The travel time with the beginning of Metro Rail will be reduced to half.
Initially, each train will have three coaches attached. The Metro stations are located at an average distance of 1 km with passenger access through staircases, escalators and lifts. The government will provide mini-bus services at the stations, connecting nearby colonies & business establishments for convenience for the public.
Be it smart card-based automatic ticketing, ultra modern coaches, user-friendly stations with lifts, staircases and facilities for the disabled, parking facility at strategic locations along the route, the Hyderabad Metro Rail promises to be the most technologically advanced metro service in the country.
"Every station will serve as hub of commercial activity also and double as foot-over-bridges too. We will soon create new sky walks to facilitate better connectivity to commercial establishments, stadiums & offices", added KT Rama Rao.
The Minimum fare has been kept as Rs.10, for upto 2 kms and maximum fare is Rs.60, for more than 26 kms, according to distance travelled.
Sale of Smart Card for the convenience of Passengers will begin from November 26th. To encourage the public to use the same, special discount of 5% is given to Smart Card users.
