New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday hailed tennis star Sania Mirza for joining the 'Swachh Bharat' campaign, saying it will go a long way in spreading awareness about the issue.
He said other sportspersons, including shooter Anjali Bhagwat, would also be joining the campaign. "A commendable effort by @MirzaSania! Her efforts towards a Swachh Bharat will go a long way in spreading awareness on the issue," Modi tweeted.
His tweet came after Sania, along with her father Imran, took up brooms and cleaned a road in Hyderabad. She posted a video of her effort on her Twitter page.
Sania, who was nominated by industrialist Anil Ambani, nominated nine persons, including fellow sportspersons and Bollywood personalities, to join the movement. "Lets work together to create a Clean India," Modi said in another tweet.
The Prime Minister also appreciated Maharashtra Governor Vidyasagar Rao joining the campaign in Maharashtra. "A wonderful effort", another tweet said.
