Tembere was shifted to the mortuary and the doctor who had attended to him issued a death certificate stating rabies as the cause of death. The incident came to light when Medical Education Minister S A Ramadas paid a surprise visit to the hospital on Wednesday. Ramadas met the patient and consoled his relatives. The minister also instructed the deputy commissioner to give a detailed report on the incident within three days. Ramadas ordered the doctor who attended to Tembere to go on a long leave.

However, a source told Express that the doctor who attended to Tembere was on leave on Wednesday and Thursday and that he was not the one who shifted Tembere from the hospital to the mortuary.
