Pakistan to call Fletcher as witness
The ECB said that Fletcher had met Procter on the morning of the fourth day's play of the Oval Test.

London: Pakistan are likely to call England coach Duncan Fletcher as a witness during the ICC hearing to decide on charges of ball tampering and bringing the game to disrepute against their skipper Inzamam-ul-Haq.

The England and Wales Cricket Board confirmed that Fletcher did meet Procter on the morning of the fourth day's play of the fourth Test at the Oval on Sunday but said it was to discuss light levels.

"Fletcher's summons is only likely to happen if the ball tampering charge, the more emotive of the two charges leveled at Inzamam, is not quickly resolved," The Daily Telegraph reported on Friday.

The newspaper said the lawyers for Pakistan Cricket Board might ask Fletcher to give a written statement first and appear in person if needed.

Fletcher met and spoke to Match Referee Mike Procter before the start of fourth day's play in the fourth Test between England and Pakistan last week.

Australian umpire Darrell Hair charged Pakistan with ball tampering during the second session that day, and the latter responded by refusing to come on to the field after the tea break.

Pakistan were deemed to have forfeited the Test, first such instance in the history of the game, and the charges were brought against Inzamam after the match.

The hearing was to be done on Friday but it was postponed because ICC Chief Match Referee Ranjan Madugalle, who is to adjudicate on the matter, was not available.
