Bhubaneswar: The family of the minor girl, who was allegedly gangraped and set on fire, on Tuesday alleged that they were forced to pay a bribe before the minor could be treated at a government hospital in Cuttack.
The family has said that two members of the staff demanded a bribe of Rs 200 before agreeing to treat the minor. The family reportedly had only Rs 150 with them. The hospital has now suspended the staff members.
The girl is still in a very critical condition with over 60 per cent burn injuries. The main accused was arrested on Monday.
A 14-year-old school girl was allegedly gangraped and set on fire in the Kendrapara district in Odisha and is now battling for life in hospital. The incident came to light on Sunday.
According to sources, the accused wanted to marry the elder sister of the survivor but the girl's parents had refused to do so. After that, on Sunday, the accused along with his friend, had allegedly forcibly took the girl to his house and pressured her to marry him.
When the girl had refused, the accused and his friend allegedly raped her and set her on fire. Police had said the accused are juveniles and are absconding.
