A malfunction in the brakes of a lift at a Noida housing complex led to it being shot through the roof of the top floor leaving three occupants injured. The incident took place at the Paras Tierra Society in Sector 137.
According to an NDTV report, the brakes of the lift failed all of a sudden when it was on the fourth floor of Tower 5 and its occupants were exiting. Due to the malfunction, it started climbing and reached straight to the 25th floor and smashed against the roof.
Three occupants of the lift, including two women sustained injuries, the residents said. The two lifts at the tower have been closed and residents have been asked to use the stairs.
Police attributed the incident to a technical fault and said an investigation into the matter is underway. They also assured strict action against the culprits.
The residents, on the other hand, have alleged a lack of regular maintenance that led to the lift malfunction.
“We will demand an investigation into this entire incident from the architects and builders. The safety of the residents is our first priority. We will take all necessary steps so that such incidents do not happen in future,” the Apartment Owners Association of Paras Tierra Society was quoted by NDTV as saying.
In December last year, nine people were injured after a lift in a Noida high-rise building crashed from the 8th floor and plunged to the ground unexpectedly in Sector 125’s River Side Tower.
