No scope for Third Front: S Ramachandran Pillai

KOZHIKODE: CPM Politburo member S Ramachandran Pillai said there was no scope for a CPM-led Third Front in the given situation. Briefing the media in connection with the 20th Party Congress here on Sunday, he said when the elections come the party would take decision on electoral adjustments with regional outfits.He said the situation after the 19th party congress held in Coimbatore had been helpful for the expansion of the party. But the 19th party congress had pointed out that the situation would not be lasting longer. The party congress had set out a 7-point programme for the expansion of the party. This time, they made an assessment of the strength and weakness of the party, how they could implement the party programme, what had achieved so far, etc.He said there was certain level of expansion in the functioning of the party in Rajastan, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh.  He said that the party was considering the huge success of the All India Strike held under the joint auspices of the trade unions on February 28 as a historic achievement. “Perhaps it was for the first time that trade unions came to a joint platform to raise their protest. Around 10 crore workers participated in the strike,” he said. The correctional campaign launched by the party has also yielded positive results.Unless we check, the wrong bourgeois tendencies would seep into the party and mass organisations,” he added. IdeologicalDocument ApprovedHe said the Congress had adopted the resolution on ideological issues presented by Sitaram Yechury. A total of 33 delegates participated in the discussion. However, only one delegate voted against the resolution while three others abstained from voting. He also revealed that there was no significant amendment to the resolution. The discussions on various reports would be concluded by Monday. The congress adopted resolutions on ensuring social security, poverty; RSS-BJP communal agenda; rights of urban poor against anti-people urban reforms; against blockade of socialist Cuba; and on the establishment of  legislative assembly for Andaman and Nicobar
