Mumbai: Sourav Ganguly, the man who led the Indian cricket team till a month ago slipped into Mumbai almost unnoticed to lead East Zone against the Zimbabwe Presidents XI in the Duleep trophy.
Looking subdued at the arrival lounge of Mumbai airport, Ganguly refused to speak to the media.
Despite making a century in his last Duleep trophy match against North Zone, he was overlooked for the one-day squad.
The team for the last two matches of the seven-match ODI series against Sri Lanka will be announced after the fifth game in Ahmedabad but with the Indian team on a roll its unlikely that Ganguly will find a place.
Meanwhile in Aurangabad (Maharashtra) West zone will go all out against the Central zone when they clash in the Duleep Trophy league match starting Saturday.
Both the teams have won one match each by defeating the South zone and the team winning their clash will move into the final of the tournament.
West zone, led by Sairaj Bahutule, and Central zone, led by Mohammed Kaif, had a two-hour rigorous net practice at the Aurangabad District Cricket Association (ADCA) ground under the supervision of their coaches Balwinder Singh Sandhu and Rajinder Singh Hans, respectively.
Parthiv Patel, Zaheer Khan, Romesh Powar, Munaf Patel are the prominents players from West zone while Sanjay Bangar, Naman Oza, Piyush Chawla, Jyoti Yadav and with the inclusion of Mohammed Kaif as the captain - have made the Central zone stronger.
Expresing satisfaction over the ADCA pitch, West zone coach and former Test cricketer Balwinder Singh Sandhu said the ADCA wicket was a good one and the facilities at the ground were fine.
The ADCA has got an opportunity to conduct a first class match after a gap of about seven years.
The last match to be played was the final of Duleep Trophy between Central zone and West zone, at the ground.
