SUNDARGARH: Polling at an interior booth in Sahedbera village of Balishankara block remained disrupted for over half-an-hour after supporters of NCP, suspecting rigging, burnt 48 ballot papers only to land in police custody.Reports said presiding officer concerned Rameswar Ray at booth 18 of Sahebdera village under Birkeldihi gram panchayat was allegedly folding ballot papers in a particular pattern in which name of a candidate was appearing prominently. By 9.20 am 48 ballot papers were cast when three NCP supporters, Sankar Kothi, Narendra Bhol and Subash Kabi learnt about it. Apprehending rigging, they rushed inside and forced open the ballot box to set the papers on fire. Additional BDO A Pani accompanied by police reached the spot and polling was done afresh.Sundargarh SP Sanjeev Arora said three persons were taken into custody and appropriate legal action initiated against them.Collector Rupa Roshan Sahu gave benefit of doubt to the presiding officer and added that fresh election was held amidst strict vigil.
