Lucknow: The Rajput Karni Sena has objected to Aparna Yadav, daughter-in-law of Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav, dancing on the Ghoomar song from the film ‘Padmavati’ during her brother’s engagement party at a five-star hotel here.

Aparna performed a dance on the song on November 23 when her younger brother Aman Singh Bisht got engaged to Vandita Sahu.

This comes amidst the ongoing controversy with the Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Padmavati’ along with the Ghoomar song with Several groups, mainly Rajput, have been demanding a ban on the film, starring Deepika Padukone with Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor in key roles.

Padmavati has been mired in controversy since its shooting started. Activists of the Karni Sena claim the film "distorts" historical facts.

The film was earlier scheduled to be released on December 1, but it has been deferred.

Recently, hearing a PIL seeking a ban on the film, a bench headed by Chief Justice of India, Dipak Misra said statements made by persons holding power or high office about the movie is tantamount to “pre-judging" it before it is cleared by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).

“When the matter is pending for CBFC’s consideration, how can persons holding public offices comment on whether CBFC should issue (a) certificate or not? It’ll prejudice the decision-making of CBFC," the bench said while dismissing the PIL.
