Farah held off defending champion Ibrahim Jeilan of Ethiopia in a thrilling finish to win in a season best 27 minutes, 21.71 seconds. Jeilan was second in 27:22.23 and Paul Tanui of Kenya settled for the bronze medal in 27:22.61.
Farah won the 5,000 at the last world championships, but only earned silver in the 10,000. At last year's London Olympics, Farah won the long-distance double.
