New Delhi: Regretting that a lot of "unnecessary controversy" has been created by mixing up of issues, the Supreme Court on Friday said that it will examine the plea for reopening of the Mahatma Gandhi's assassination case only on the basis of law, without getting influenced by the "greatness of the personality involved".
A bench led by Justice SA Bobde maintained that the issues were getting mixed up due to the name of the personality involved and that everyone should be concerned only about the legal position and law of evidence.
"Don't get carried away by the greatness of the personality involved. The Court has to act only in accordance with law and not influenced by the personality involved," said the bench.
The Court's observation came as PIL petitioner urged the bench to proceed since the "country has a right to know the truth behind Mahatma's killing".
