Nitish Kumar said the Bihar govt will initiate action against Lalu for practicing alleged exorcism.

Patna: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said the Bihar government will initiate action against Railway Minister Lalu Prasad practicing alleged exorcism in Phulwaria village.

On Sunday, JD (U) national spokesman Shivanand Tiwari had demanded Prasad's arrest for allegedly playing the role of an exorcist during consecration of a temple at his native village.

As far as the Prevention of Witchcraft Practices Act, 1999 was concerned, Kumar explained that it had been legislated during the RJD-Congress regime.

The Act is a punishable offence with a provision for three months imprisonment or a fine of Rs 1000 or both, explained Kumar.

The government would initiate action only after fully considering the legal aspect, Kumar said.

“We are living in a scientific age. Propagating blind faith and still claiming to be secular is not compatible. Only those who have lost self-confidence take refuge in superstition,” Kumar said.
