Bangalore: Congress is ready for a “Maharashtra model” arrangement with its coalition partner JD(S) in Karnataka, AICC General Secretary AK Antony said in Bangalore on Friday.
As per the arrangement, the chief minister would continue to be from Congress and the key home and water resources portfolios would be offered to JD(S).
Congress would have Industry and Revenue portfolios too.
“We are willing to agree for the Maharashtra government formula. We have agreed for that to save the government,” Antony said after a meeting with Chief Minister N Dharam Singh and state Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge.
This has been conveyed to JD(S), he said.
Asked if JD(S) has responded to its move, Antony said “let us see their reaction. Please ask them.”
However, there has been no response from them so far, he added.
Congress is willing to accept the “Maharashtra formula” to save the government “at any cost”.
“We want to prevent the communal forces from coming to power,” he said
Answering a query whether he had succeeded in saving the government, Dharam Singh said “I will show it in the House. The House is supreme”.
