THIRUVANATHAPURAM: The effort of the KPCC to appoint its nominee as the political secretary to the Chief Minister has made the selection process more complex. It is learnt that KPCC president Ramesh Chennithala has proposed Prof G Balachandran, chairman of Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Development Studies under the KPCC, as the political secretary. Balachandran has the blessings of Union Minister Vayalar Ravi too. Sources close to Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that he is opposed to the appointment of Balachandran. Thampanoor Ravi and M Murali seem to be the only names under the consideration of Chandy. He prefers to have a more active person as the political secretary. But, Chennithala objects to it by saying that those who lost the Assembly election may not be rehabilitated through the back door. In fact, the decision on political secretary is getting delayed as a compromise on a name eludes the CM and the KPCC. According to sources, the KPCC wants to exert more power on this UDF Government unlike previous ones. The model in the mind of KPCC top brass is none other than P Sasi who while serving as the political secretary of E K Nayanar, had proved how effective the post was. In contrast, the Chief Minister wants a political secretary who can work in close coordination with him to help him accomplish the tasks in his mind.
