Kerala: 8 kids escape from an orphanage after being made to work like slaves
The locals informed the police and the children in the age-group of 8 to 13 are now in the custody of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) at Malappuram.

Thiruvananthapuram: The ordeal of orphan children in the state is never ending. About eight children ran away from an orphanage in Malappuram as they were not provided the promised facilities and were made to work like slaves in the orphanage. The locals informed the police and the children in the age-group of 8 to 13 are now in the custody of Child Welfare Committee (CWC) at Malappuram.

Advocate Sherief Ullath, chairman of CWC Malappuram said that the children were from Mannarcaud of Attapadi. They were promised many facilities at the orphanage, but in the end 33 of them were forced to share a single room. The children were brought here in the past one week. They were also made to do the work in the orphanage.

The chairman added that according to the information they have as of now, the orphanage was run by the Church of South India (CSI). And this orphanage was not registered. He added that he will be able to give more details once the place is inspected.
