J&K Finance Minister’s PRO assaults forest officer over anti-encroachment drive
Minister Haseeb Drabu’s PRO has denied the charges claiming that he requested the officer to stop anti-encroachment drive till further orders.

Srinagar: The PRO of Jammu and Kashmir's Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu on Friday assaulted a forest official and threatened him of dire consequences during an anti-encroachment drive at Sangarwani forest in Pulwama district in Jammu and Kashmir.

The incident took place when a forest department team led by forester Kabir Ahmed was demarcating 400 kanals of encroached forest land. It was learnt that when he was removing the encroachments, minister's PRO Junaid Rashid along with local villagers rushed to the spot and reportedly assaulted the forest officer.

There are allegations against Rashid that he slapped the forest department officer several times and also threatened him of dire consequences for his anti-encroachment drive.

Meanwhile, the local villagers vandalized the demarcation equipments and manhandled the officer.

A complaint has been lodged with the local police but sources said under pressure from the powerful ruling political lobby of the area headed by the minister, the police so far have failed to register a FIR.

The PRO has denied the charges and claimed that he went to the spot in order to request the forest department officials to stop the demarcation due to the compensation issues of the villagers.
