Inviting investments in Jharkhand, Chief Minister Hemant Soren, on Monday assured industry of all possible help for launching projects, including faster clearances and approvals to their projects.
“Jharkhand has never disappointed industries. I think there have been some delusions on investments due to some past things, it is all gone now,” he said while addressing an industry gathering in New Delhi in Ficci.
“We appeal to all the industries to come to our state, there is infinite opportunities here. The government is here to provide you all kind of support,” Soren added.
When asked about issues related to land acquisition, he said that it is not a big issue and many industries were given government land in past.
“The government will work with the industries to resolve their issues,” he said, while inviting them to invest in areas such as agriculture, food processing and fisheries.
Soren also noted that Jharkhand is known for huge mineral reserves, be it coal or iron ore or other minerals and has existence of industrial culture at various places including Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Bokaro and Dhanbad.
Investment moves in Jharkhand, which has 40 per cent of India’s total mineral resources, have been marred by several issues in recent times. This includes political instability, delays in government approvals, problems in acquiring land and illegal mining.
Due to the prevailing issues, some large-scale projects, such as ArcelorMittal’s Rs 50,000 crore steel plant, having 12 million tonne capacity, have failed to take off.
This is despite the fact that the Eastern state is known for its immense potential and has vast fertile land, forests and woodlands, water and energy reserves among others.
The state’s Chief Secretary, Ram Sevak Sharma, said the government was trying to resolve the issues and grievances of the industries. He also said that he had a meeting with ArcelorMittal representatives three days back and land acquisition is “not a problem“.
“It’s not a problem. Ultimately it is ArcelorMittal who has to make offers to acquire land. We can’t do without their requisition... In fact, I had a meeting with them only three days back. They are doing it. They existed from Odisha recently but they are very much focused in Jharkhand,” he said.
Jharkhand has been placed as fifth under-developed state by the Raghuram Rajan Committee on backwardness after Odisha, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.
