Lucknow: Nearly two months after being disqualified from the Rajya Sabha over the office of profit issue, Jaya Bachchan resigned as Chairperson of Uttar Pradesh Film Development Corporation on Wednesday.
Her resignation was accepted by Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Yadav had appointed Jaya Chairperson of the Corporation with a cabinet minister rank on October 10, 2003 soon after he took over the reins of the state.
She had resigned from UPFDC chairpersonship earlier as well, before being elected to the upper house of Parliament on a Samajwadi Party ticket on July 4, 2004, but she had been reappointed to the post ten days later.
The noted actress was disqualified from the Rajya Sabha on March 16 this year following a petition before the Election Commission accusing her of holding an office of profit as Chairperson of the Corporation.
