Jan Morcha' rally in the capital
Jan Morcha attacked the Congreses-led UPA Government for the ongoing sealing and demolition drive in the city.

New Delhi Trying to consolidate its base in the capital, V P Singh-led Jan Morcha on Sunday organised a massive rally in Delhi attacking the Congreses-led UPA Government on a number of counts, including the ongoing sealing and demolition drive in the city.

Attended by a crowd of about 5,000, the 'Delhi Bachao Sangram' witnessed the participation of parties of the emerging 'third front' in the metro, including Akali Dal, an NDA constituent at the Centre and in Punjab besides CPI, NCP and JD(S).

Addressing the crowd, mainly from the JJ clusters who bore the brunt of the court-ordered demolition, speaker after speaker criticised Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit's statement that her government intends to make Delhi 'another Paris' and the crisis faced by the capital on power and water fronts.

Taking responsibility for appealing to people to vote for Congress in the last elections, an apologetic Singh said, "let us teach those who ran bulldozers over houses a lesson. Next time, let us run our bulldozer of votes over their heads."

The former Prime Minister said he was pained at the fact that the Congress have forgotten the promises made by it during last polls and was doing exactly opposite by demolishing slums.

Criticising the sealing drive, he said it was "amazing to know that the authorities have suddenly found illegal buildings which was existing for last 40 year. Does it mean that their eyes were sealed for last 40 years?"

CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan alleged the ongoing drive against illegal constructions were "selective" and asked whether the efforts to make the capital another Paris was done by evicting poor people from their abodes.
