Indore: Indore’s Gandhi Medical College has quashed admissions of 47 students accused of getting admission through fraudulent means through Vyapam – the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board.
A major scam was discovered in the entrance exams conducted by the board in 2013.
Of the students debarred, 22 were studying in MBBS final year, while 25 had completed their course, dean Dr MC Songara said, adding that he had acted in accordance with the directives of the Supreme Court.
The medical college has written to Madhya Pradesh government so that degrees of 25 medicos who have completed the course can be quashed by the Medical Council of India.
After a joint committee of Vyapam and Medical Education had found these students suspicious, an empowered committee of the medical college has probed into their credentials. These students were admitted into the college from 2008 to 2012.
The empowered committee had found the students guilty of anomalies after checking their finger prints and photographs. Later on, an FIR was lodged with the police.
The Special Task Force too had probed the case and found admissions fraudulent. Then dean Dr BP Dubey had quashed their admission but the Supreme Court stayed the order and had allowed the students to continue studies.
