New Delhi: Six people have been arrested by the police in connection with the murder of an Indian Oil Corporation employee, Munjunath in Lakhimpur.
In the wake of the murder of the PSU employee murder, IOC has asked Uttar Pradesh government to provide police protection for its staff.
An IIM-Lucknow graduate, Manjunath was shot dead at a petrol station in Lakhimpur Kheri district in Uttar Pradesh on 19 November.
A sales manager in the Indian Oil Corporation for the past 15 months, Manjunath had seized the petrol pump in September, forcing it to close down for almost a month.
The 27-year-old executive had taken samples of fuel to check for adulteration.
On 19 November he went to back to Mittal Automobiles for inspection.
He left the petrol pump at 6 p.m (IST) but returned around nine the same evening, after realising that he had left some equipment behind. It was then that the petrol pump owner, Monu Mittal decided to take his revenge and shot him dead.
Monu and five of his accomplices have been arrested and the dealership of the petrol pump has been terminated.
To mark their protest against the murder of an IOC employee in Lakhimpur Kheri district, the Oil Sector Officers Association has threatened to shut down all gas stations in UP on Wednesday.
