Panaji: An Indo-China Audio-Visual Co-production Agreement was signed on 18th September in presence of Indian Prime Minister and Chinese President, but its impact could only be felt at IFFI this year. Whether it was by way of Chinese films that are being screened at the ongoing festival, presence of Chinese actors and officials at the ongoing festival, or just their interest in the collaboration with India, IFFI has left no stone unturned to give adequate attention to country focus - China.
"Indian and Chinese movies are very popular amongst the masses so we thought we should understand the best of technologies of both the countries. We have got together to understand each other so that we operationalise the agreement," Bomal Julka, secretary, I&B ministry had said at IFFI.
Chinese I&B Minister Tony Gong feels co-production of films can play an instrumental part in achieving the goals they have set out for. "I believe we should proceed first with the co-production of films. The Chinese producers can work to produce films that will be popular for both audiences. The two parties can hold mutual film exhibitions to show each other and help the audience learn a lot about Indian and Chinese films," stated Tony Gong, I&B Minister, China.
Impressed with Bollywood songs and dance sequences, Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi expressed her desire to combine it with Chinese martial arts to woo fans to cinema halls.
"We are honored to be here. We thank all for giving great opportunity for all Chinese filmmakers to showcase their works here. We know Wong Kar Wei couldn't be here, but he will here for closing ceremony. For me, the opening ceremony was an eye opener. I love the beautiful dances and songs of Bollywood. I' m just thinking if we could combine Indian dance and songs with our martial arts in future," said Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi.
