CHENNAI: Short supply of diesel and petrol has affected about 400 Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) petrol pumps in Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, Geetha Mathew, president, Hindustan Petroleum Dealers Forum-Chennai Region said here on Friday.In a statement here, Geetha Mathew said the petrol pumps are affected due to the shutdown of Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemical Limited (MRPL). Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) in an official release here said the short supply was caused because of the partial shutdown of MRPL from 12 April. Since 16 April, the plant was fully shutdown. Describing the shortage of diesel supply in Chennai and other parts of Tamil Nadu as temporary, IOC said the situation would normalise soon. While an HPCL tanker is expected to berth in Chennai on Sunday, IOC is also planning to import diesel from Singapore. “These arrangements would normalise the situation soon,” IOC reassured.
