Sedentary lifestyle and Board exams have almost become synonymous. Find out how to manage those hunger pangs while you study.

New Delhi: Sedentary lifestyle and Board exams have almost become synonymous. Long hours sitting on the study table can intensify those hunger pangs.

Apart from the mind-boggling questions and answers of their syllabi, another crucial question for children is whether to eat or not to eat. Nutritionist Ishi Khosla says that it helps to eat small, frequent meals instead of huge single meals.

"During exams the interesting thing is how the appetite of children goes up and they want to snack. Hence you can keep eating small frequent meals," Khosla says.

Dr Khosla says that children should be given more food to munch upon to to improve concentration. "Space the meals out. It's very important to drink lots of water and it not just helps improve concentration but also makes one alert," she said.

You could also snack on fruits, salads, sprouts, nuts and dry fruits and low fat milk will help you get rid of those untimely hunger pangs.

"Demand for Vitamin B and C goes up when kids are studying. They can also have some amount of caffeine, say three to four cups daily. However, a lot of caffeine can be harmful. So watch out," Khosla says.

Khosla also says that since caffeine is dehydrating, it's very important to drink at least eight to ten glasses daily.
