Hockey team set for camp in Germany
The Indian hockey team is set for a 10-day training camp in Germany this month to get set for the Champions Challenge.

New Delhi: Ahead of the Champions Challenge tournament in Belgium, the Indian hockey team is set to undergo a 10-day training camp in Germany this month to get set for the six-nation event.

After securing a bronze medal at the Sultan Azlan Shah Trophy in Malaysia last month, the Indian team, out of action since, will play practice matches during their 10-day stay at Dusseldorf, Indian Hockey Federation Secretary K Jothikumaran told PTI on Friday.

"Our team will have a 10-day training camp in Germany before the Champions Challenge meet. During that period it will play some warm-up matches against four high quality clubs available at the time," Jothikumaran said.

The 32 probables, who are training at the Sports Authority of India premises in Bangalore, will be narrowed down on Saturday as the team is set to leave on June 11. The hockey team's camp gets over on June 20.

Jothikumaran was also surprised at the shock pull-out of Pakistan from contesting the Asia Cup hockey tournament to be played in September in Chennai, and said IHF had not yet received any official communication from Pakistan Hockey Federation.

"This (Pakistan's pull-out) is news for us. We are yet to receive any official communication from them. A meeting of the Asian Hockey Federation is to take place in the second week of June where everything will be finalised on the Asia Cup," he said.
