High court rejects petition against PM over Ordinance on convicted MPs
The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Thursday refused to entertain a contempt of court petition filed against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The Lucknow bench of the Allahabad High Court on Thursday refused to entertain a contempt of court petition filed against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

While hearing the petition filed by social activist Nutan Thakur regarding the controversial ordinance on convicted lawmakers, the court said the matter is related to the Supreme Court.

Thakur had accused the Prime Minister of defying Supreme Court orders while going ahead with the ordinance, which sought to overrule an apex court ruling on disqualifying convicted lawmakers.

Thakur had prayed for action against the Prime Minister under the Contempt of Courts Act 1971. The ordinance has since been withdrawn by the central government.
